I entered the world of therapeutic bodywork somewhat cautiously, out of curiosity around my own body. I was born with a genetic rare digestive disorder. I held fear and anxiety in my body and felt ashamed of symptoms and sensations much of my childhood and ealry adult life. But I could see that this was in the way of my joy!
I spent the first years of my life in hospital and while there is no memory of this time, I have come to acknowledge that some of this experience lives in me in my felt sense. Trauma symptoms can manifest differently for different people and if not understood can feel frightening to experience and can cause people to disconnect from their body. Therapeutic touch helped me to reconnect to my body, feel safe enough and supported enough to get to know these sensations and make them more ok. It is not a replacement for talking therapy or trauma therapy but can work well along side such and for anyone who feels recurring fear in their body that no longer makes sense to what’s happening now. The more I become aware in my body and breath, the more I am able to send new signals and create new possibilities. Whether I am treating mechanical issues - chronic tension/ injury recovery - or helping clients relax and reconnect to their felt sense, I am always informed by the intention that my contact with clients is deeply resourcing.
