What is Mindful Remedial Massage?

The Remedial aspect


Skilful, sensitive touch and mobilisations can facilitate the process of healing and have significant long term benefits. Massage gets things moving, helping to improve circulation which in turn nourishes at a cellular level. Most of us have experienced 'achey' muscles or 'knotted' sensations in our back. The muscle tissue may need strengthened or lengthened to restore balance. If lengthening is required, massage can help soften tissue. 


Mindfulness: Linking up all the parts to become whole again 


As we develop, most of us build up patterns of behavior, postures, ways of holding ourselves that are largely unconscious. It can be difficult to recognise these patterns even if they are causing us damage. My hands act as safe and supportive feedback to guide you into your felt sense and know for yourself where you feel stuck and where you feel great. By allowing new touch sensations, new movements and frictions, you allow volumes of new data which the mind can use to search for new habits, new behaviours - the possibility for change. Our skeletal muscles are controlled by our conscious awareness and can be influenced by our will. I will work with you to re-establish your psycho- emotional- sensory connections so you can experience life more fully.


Helping you be your authentic self


Before we were any of the labels we identify with we were little beings just being. Now we are bigger beings with complex thoughts, sensations and emotions which in themselves are not the problem - what a gift in fact- but how we relate to these aspects of ourselves matters. From experience and continual practise in myself and professionally, I have seen there is an inherent ‘me-ness’ or beingness at the centre of each of us that is able to experience all of those aspects and not be driven by any one of them. From here we have true choice in how to act and relate, we can experience the full spectrum of emotion and observe the wonders of our imagination and the sensations of our body. And isn’t this so important amidst the chaos and madness of today’s society? I see the body as the landscape of the mind so it’s a great place to start your journey. Some clients make this inner exploration a quiet one within themselves or share with me for feedback. I offer gentle verbal invitations throughout the session inviting the client to notice this or that as we work on different areas. I follow the clients lead and level of interest - it’s your treatment and your being. Your sense of safety and comfort always comes first. My own practise and training in mindful bodywork, awareness building, meditation and supervision supports my work.
