Why Massage?

Benefits of Massage

The body heals itself. Skilful massage can greatly facilitate the process of healing and have significant long term benefits. Massages gets things moving - it helps to improve circulation which in turn nourishes at a cellular level. Most of us have experienced 'achey' muscles or 'knotted' sensations in our back. This is often down to overuse of the muscle that results in micro-damage to the fibres. Massage helps to generate a healthy blood supply to speed up that repair. There's the 'feel good factor' - massage can help activate the part of the nervous system that allows us to be calm and socially engaged, giving the body a chance to recover from periods of fight or flight caused by everyday stressors.

Neuro-sensory Awareness

As we develop, most of us build up consistent patterns of behavior, postures, ways of holding ourselves that are largely unconscious. It can be difficult to recognise these patterns even if they are causing us damage. By allowing new touch sensations, new movements and frictions, you allow volumes of new data which the mind can use to search for new habits, new behaviors - the possibility for change. Our skeletal muscles are controlled by our conscious awareness and can be influenced by our will to let go again. I will work with you to re-establishing your mind-body connection that you can build into your everyday life.
